Straw marquetry

Straw marquetry appears in Europe in the 17th century. At that time, it is used by religious and convicts in the making of small objects.

Reused, from the Art Deco period until today, this art profession is practiced by only twenty professionals in France.

In 2013, I discovered straw marquetry, work of a humble material, during my career as an assembler carpenter with fellow cabinetmakers. She immediately caught my attention and especially my curiosity.

The light reflected on the natural layer of silica that protects the straw strands is harmoniously distributed according to their orientations. It gives the objects made a radiant and luxurious appearance.

The different techniques practiced in the discipline require patience and meticulousness, qualities that I have been devoting for 5 years to realize custom furniture and decorative objects on order.
